Working with the new Prime Minister

South Metro MLC Lynn MacLaren congratulates Australia’s new Prime Minister Julia Gillard (pictured here in March with South Perth Mayor, James Best).

“Party politics aside, this is a historic moment for all Australians. I look forward to the leadership Ms Gillard promises, especially in the policy areas of climate change and social inclusion, for which she created the first Ministry,” Ms MacLaren said.

In March, Mr Best was giving Ms Gillard and Ms MacLaren a tour of the new civic building and library in construction, thanks to Infrastructure Australia funding.

An installation at Sir James Mitchell Park will also receive funds in the current round, as announced by the Prime Minister.

"South Perth is doing a great job in attracting federal funds for community assets. The Mayor, councillors and staff are to be commended for their success in putting stimulus funds to good use in long term-projects," added Ms MacLaren.
