URBAN TRANSIT PROPOSAL — MANNING–COMO AREA
4599. Hon Lynn MacLaren to the Minister for Finance representing the Minister for Transport
(1) What is the rationale behind the proposal to establish a feeder bus route from Canning Bridge Station to Curtin University through Henley Street and Jackson Road?
(2) What is the rationale behind the proposal to establish a high capacity/high frequency urban transit
corridor through Henley Street, Manning/Como and Jackson Road, Karawara?
(3) How will the safety of children at the Como Secondary College be affected if a bus route is established near its south and southeast boundaries?
(4) How will the safety of children at the Collier Primary School be affected if the proposed new transit
route is established?
(5) How will the safety of residents who live in the complex abutting the Como Secondary College’s
southern boundary at the end of Jackson Road be affected if a bus route is established there?
Hon SIMON O’BRIEN replied:
Department of Transport advises:
(1) The need for a direct and efficient bus link between the Precinct and Canning Bridge station that is
separate from the congested traffic environment on Manning Road.
(2) This is the same transit corridor as referred to in part (1).
(3) The provision of public transport reduces the number of cars on the network which reduces conflict.
