Follow the adventures of an average Aussie family (Shane and Shirl Jones with their two kids) as they meet our live food panel. Help them decide what to do in the face of delicious dilemmas and percolated problems!

Just when they were ready to hang up their BBQ tongs in dismay, the Jones discover a thriving network of food alternatives that are not only better for people and planet … but taste even better than their favourite pie and sauce!

This evening will cover positive food alternatives.

  • Qualified Nutritionist Stephanie McFaull is passionate about nutrition education and health promotion, particularly the facilitation of cooking programs focusing on youth health, chronic disease prevention, mental health and healthy ageing for seniors. She currently works with Foodbank, as Coordinator of Regional Strategy  which is expanding our nutrition education programs throughout regional and remote WA schools and communities. Foodbank WA has rescued over 25 million kilograms of food, which translates to over 50 million meals and is equivalent to 250,000 cubic metres of landfill.
  • The Sustainability Manager at Perth City Farm, Michael Forte, and is currently implementing rain water retention and grey water systems, and reducing energy requirements for the farm. Michael is a certified energy auditor and consultant and owns New York City's first carbon neutral restaurant. He is currently running the GRO mushroom project, where he will be farming mushrooms grown on your leftover coffee grounds!
  • Bee Winfield was kicked out of home at 16 for building compost heaps in the backyard. Despite her dad taking her to a psychiatrist for help, the composting habit was incurable. At 52 a steaming hot heap still thrills her, as does  the sight of a mass of red wriggler worms demolishing  a cow pat. Of course, out of all this decay comes another light of her life… food!  The more Bee learns about food production the more passionate about organics she becomes. Bee’s career  as an organic farmer took off about 7 years ago, with the start of City Farm markets, and with her partner Stewart they‘ve been regular stallholders since day dot.
  • With a background in agricultural science Senator Rachel Siewert spent sixteen years as the Coordinator of the Conservation Council of WA before entering the Senate in 2005. She is the Federal Greens spokesperson on Agriculture, along with Fisheries. She is a previous spokesperson on Health. Rachel celebrated her 50th birthday this month and her birthday cake was a replica of Parliament House!
  • Charles Mathelot is a Raw Foodie. From a childhood gardening with his Italian Nonna in India, to his current work as a Raw Food Nutritionist, Charles has built a life on the connection between mind, body and soul. After many years as a therapist and healer, he first tried a Raw Diet in 2007, due to health concerns. It made such a difference that he and his wife now enjoy a Raw Vegan diet and teach others about “Living Raw”.
