Roe 8 update following June 1 rally

On Tuesday June 1, SouthMetro Connect held an information day and revealed the latest potential design of the Roe Highway extension through Beeliar wetlands.

The 'Discussion Drawing' that was shown to the general public raised a number of concerns. We would like to highlight just a couple.

Firstly, the local Blue Gum Montessori School and the Lake Side Recreation Centre are not labelled on the map, even though they are both very close to the proposed highway. The Roe extension cuts off the recreation centre from those who use it most - residents of Bibra Lake.

The engineers said there could be pedestrian access under the highway. However, walking under a 6-lane highway is not ideal for many people, either for safety or aesthetic reasons.

Secondly, the propsed route slices through identified Carnaby's Black Cockatoo nesting trees and cuts an entirely new path through conservation wetlands, going outside the Metropolitan Regoional Scheme (MRS) road reserve.
