Gas Fracking Risks in Western Australia – Fremantle Public Forum

Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren is hosting a public forum on Gas Fracking in Western Australia, on Tuesday 31 July in the Fremantle Council Reception Room at 6:00pm.

Ms MacLaren will be joined by Dr George Crisp of Doctors for the Environment and Alison Xamon MLC, Greens spokesperson for Water Policy.

Dr Crisp will speak of the reasons behind the increasing global concern over fracking, describing the environmental impacts of groundwater contamination and surface spills.

Ms Xamon will outline what is now taking place in the Wheatbelt and the Kimberley, its effects on agricultural land, along with steps the Government and communities need to take.

“Gas fracking is a fledgling industry in WA,” said Ms MacLaren today. “There exists the opportunity right now to ensure that the industry is accountable and communities don’t suffer what has happened in the Eastern States and the USA.”
