CATTLE — EXPORT TO INDONESIA
Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the minister representing the Minister for Agriculture and Food:
(1) How many cattle were exported to Indonesia from Western Australia —
(a) to date in 2011; and
(b) in 2010?
(2) From which Western Australian ports are cattle currently exported to Indonesia?
(3) Will the minister please advise the destinations in Indonesia for cattle imported from Western
Australia?
(4) How many cattle exported to Indonesia from Western Australia are bound for slaughter and how many
are breeding stock?
Hon ROBYN McSWEENEY replied:
I thank the member for some notice of this question.
(1) (a) The Australian Bureau of Statistics figures are available only to the end of February 2011. To
that date in 2011, a total of 7 010 cattle have been exported to Indonesia from WA.
(b) In 2010 a total of 170 555 cattle were exported to Indonesia from Western Australia.
(2) Cattle are exported to Indonesia from the Western Australian ports of Broome, Fremantle, Geraldton
and Wyndham.
(3) The major destinations in Indonesia for cattle imported from Western Australia are Belawan, Dumai,
Jakarta–Tanjung Priok, Panjang and Surabaya, which account for more than 97 per cent of Western
Australian cattle imported into Indonesia.
(4) ABS figures indicate that the total number of cattle exported to Indonesia from Western Australia in
2010 was 170 555. To the end of February 2011, 7 010 cattle were classified as bound for uses other
than breeding.
