The proposed commercial area (west of Jandakot Airport) has the potential to contaminate the Jandakot groundwater resource that is currently used to supply drinking water into the Perth Integrated Water Supply System.

The Jandakot Airport expansion is on Commonwealth Government land and as such the State Government does not have jurisdiction over land use.

Notwithstanding this, the Department of Water has written a number of times (from late 2008 to late 2009) to both the Federal Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts and Jandakot Airport Holdings raising strong concerns regarding the potential risk to water supply and recommending the development not be approved.

The water resource in this area will continue to be closely monitored to ensure that water delivered to consumers is safe to drink. Monitoring will detect changes in water quality and allow action to be taken.
