It's time the Government got on track
Lynn MacLaren MLC, the WA Greens transport spokesperson, has been shocked by recent revelations that train carriages were idling in a shed North of Perth while commuters were crammed into trains on the Joondalup line.
“Train carriages sitting idle in a shed was shocking news to me, as I’m sure it was to frustrated commuters,” said Ms MacLaren.
“The Government’s lack of accountability for expenditure on all modes of transport and the Minister’s lack of foresight and vision demonstrates why we are the most car dependent city in Australia,”
“The Minister’s decision to put these new carriages on the tracks immediately will reap benefits over the next 3 years of reduced greenhouse gas emissions and will help alleviate worsening traffic congestion,”
"It just goes to show how wrong-footed state transport policy is. They need to dust off their old ways of thinking and get more modes of public transport infrastructure back on track. Not only light rail, but river ferries should be in the mix,” Ms MacLaren concluded.
