Hands Off Point Peron Rally

More than 500 people turned up to voice their opposition to plans for an inland canal-style development carved out of an A-class reserve on the Point Peron penninsular.

“The Greens want Point Peron to be developed... into a beautiful park with cycleways and walkways, and large areas of well maintained public space to meet the recreational needs of the growing population in this region,” Ms MacLaren told protesters.

Lynn urged everyone with fond memories of school camp excursions to get active in the campaign to save the area from being carved out to become an inland marina.

“An inland marina – at taxpayers’ expense – would destroy this Bushforever site, threaten three Aboriginal heritage sites, break a 1964 land use agreement with the Commonwealth, kill more sea grass near Mangles Bay, and endanger the rare thrombolites in freshwater Lake Richmond.

"The reason my parliamentary criticism for the project is falling on deaf ears is that both the Liberal party and the ALP have played a role in getting this project onto the drawing boards. The Opposition is stunningly silent, even on the matter of throwing our taxpayer funds into a private development," added Ms MacLaren.
