Greens support communities in fight against lead transport
Greens MLC for South Metropolitan, Lynn MacLaren, has expressed her grave concerns at the announcement today that Magellan Metals is to recommence transporting lead carbonate concentrate through to Fremantle Port.
“Magellan’s license to export lead should be revoked, and remain revoked. They have breached their own health, hygiene and environmental management plan in the past, transporting lead through Kwinana.
“Their controls have been breached. Their reporting system has been slow. Decision makers have been unresponsive. The Environment Minister’s reassurances are cold comfort to the people living along the route from Wiluna to Fremantle.
“The Greens stand by the community of Fremantle, and all the communities along the railway line from Wiluna in their opposition to the transport of lead.”
Lynn MacLaren has asked six questions in Parliament on the transport of lead to Fremantle Port. The questions are attached below.
