GMO Rally Sets Minister Redman Running

February 21, 2010 The inspiring rally protesting the Liberal Government’s decision to lift the moratorium on growing genetically modified crops in WA had a great turn out and sent a powerful message to Minister Redman, who literally ran away from the crowd and away from the truth.

The Minister has lifted the moratorium despite the failure of 11 out of 17 GM crops just trialled here, despite the signatures of 21,000 people, and despite the majority of farmers and local shires wanting to stay GM free.

We call on you to urge the Nationals (who are breaking an election promise if they support GM) and the Liberals (some members could cross the floor on a conscience vote) to stand firm against GM. Once we go down the GM path there is no turning back. It is shameful that we live in a state where our government is so arrogantly going against the wishes of its own people and farmers.

So what next?

At the rally we were urged to do two things most powerful at this stage:

First check out the info and sign the petition at this link: http://no-gmo.asn.au/

Then write to the Nationals and Liberals and urge them to cross the floor and do a ‘conscience vote’ on this issue.
